The Reach bonus can, however, be a double-edged sword:

• If the character with the reach bonus fails his Opposed Test, his adversary can then exploit this to close the distance between them. The character's weapon will then become much more difficult to wield at close quarters.

I would assume that this condition would last until the Character with the Reach capability was able to re-position herimself back into a Reach-enabled position, for example by backstepping a suitable amount of distance.
