Well, I won't post in the Introductions forum for an obvious reason >_>
I don't speak French, but a friend of mine DaigotsuMax introduced me to this game, and now I am terribly anxious to see an English version of it. It combines the best stuff I liked from Sea Titans (a PC RTS game) and has this very good Cyberpunk and post-Apocaliptic taste to it that I just can't wait to try out!
So... will there be one? Pretty please? Pretty pretty pwease? ;D
J'avoue c'est ma faute...
S'il y a besoin d'une traduction des posts de Mishka vers le français n'hésitez pas!
I have given my sister's mail to Black Book Editions, she fluent in english and spanish.
But, I wonder if they plan to translate Polaris in a short future.
I really hope so, given there're few similar new games on the market ^^
We're looking forward an english version, but it is very hard to tell when all this will come true. Before making a translation of the book, we have to know which way we will proceed in terms of communication, distribution, relationship with the customers and the RPG shops. Well, a lot of problems to solve. ;)
But keep the faith !
I might be wrong but I don't think there are a lot of French Rpgs being translated in English...
Still, don't loose hope but I guess that at first there should be a sufficient number of English players interested in Polaris so the translation would worth the cost.
Well, not all non-French players have French friends that would tell them about this game :P I hope the game is translated soon, and for now maybe Max will quick-translate some basic stuff and run a game for me ;D And if there is any way I can help, don't hesitate to ask!
UNtil an english version you must learn French ;)
The first topic in english ;D
If many english users need to read or ask about Polaris please to contact me by PM and I will check if I must create english place in the forum ;)
Create a forum English is a good thing.
Just to test the interest of an English version ...
8)
I will wait for more users to create it ;)
Why wait ?
This will give better visibility on the web for non-French...
for 2 reasons :
- no Polaris version in english for the moment then if not french people can't read the book I think it will reduce number of people to ask us or philippe or bbe aboit it ;)
- Create a forum for 1 or 2 posts not a good idea, but when lot of none french people will be here I will create it and will move all english messages into ;)

How much money will ask your sister to do the translation ?

I have no idea. ^^
Max could try to translate the player Pack (8 pages) for helping his non spoken french friend, isn't it ?

In fact, it was what I had in mind ^^U
That would be great! (and not only 'cause I want to read it. Material in English would mean English-speaking people will be able to read it and get interested in the game ^^)
Do you know Blue Planet? Ok, it's not the same thing, but the concept is close to Polaris (despite the fact that the world is not under water, even if it's on a planet fullfilled of water).
Yep, I have read some of the books that Max shared with me ^_^
Yet, it has a very different mood than Polaris. I find Blue Planet hopeful, bright, a little sarcastic, very like the exploration of the Wild West in the XIX Century. On the other hand, I found Polaris to be a lot darker, more claustrophobic, nearly hopeless. I know that the setting is probably the main thing that determines the mood, but I try to follow J. Wick's advice and to give the mechanics of a game a bigger importance as they usually represent the traits and the mood of the setting.
Besides, the last edition of Polaris is old old :P
Mishka, surely quicker for you to learn french than waiting for a Polaris translation ;) may be except if you or some of your friends have good acquaintance with english publishing companies :)
I actually had some French classes when I was in high school, but that only means that I know how to count to 12 ^^U
And I wish I knew somebody from publishing companies >.>
The day I rule the world all publishing companies will have to translate and publish games for me *sage nod*
I will say something that could be a little... ridicoulous.
Why cannot we try to translate the main rules. We could make a "quick start" of Polaris, so this can help us to know if Polaris has success!
A short booklet with a summary of the rules and the universe. It could be a great idea !!
I... nominate... Max *grins*
If I can help by checking the grammar/spelling, I'm all for helping in that project ^^
Great! I'll try to do it... but I have a few things to do it the next 3 weeks, so I could be slow...
it'll be also very interesting to speak of Polaris on the english forums to suscitate curiosity about the game...
Am gonna translate the character pack for Mishka today, only the background part - if someone is interested by getting the text they can PM me. As for english forums I think RPG.net is the biggest one where we could do something.
I suppose that, as propaganda, somebody could post the player's pack on RPG.net once it's done, or something like that.
Ok I've almost finished translating the background part of the character pack, Mishka is just doig some more proofreading. I wonder if our friendly authors wouldalow me to post that on RPG.net (main US RPG forum) to get an idea of foreign interest in Polaris?
For those interested, the translation of the introduction to the stting present in the character pack is over and has been doubly proof-read, am waiting for Cyrull's opinion before posting it on RPG.net :)

And here we are ^^ please tell me your opinions about it (sorry to keep posting in English, but this way Mishka can follow ^^)
And even on Spanish forums!

Je viens de lire, bon boulot. ;)
